About Understand Your Tax
Understand Your Tax builds free, interactive tax calculators for the United States, United Kingdom and major European economies. Our goal is simple: help people understand how a tax is worked out, with clear bands, worked examples and plain-language explanations — not just a single number.
Who runs this site
[Add your name / company, a sentence on your background, and why the site exists. Real authorship is important for trust on financial topics.]
How we source our figures
Rates, thresholds and allowances are compiled directly from official government sources for each country and tax year, including:
- United States — Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
- United Kingdom — HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)
- Germany — Bundeszentralamt für Steuern
- France — Direction générale des Finances publiques (DGFiP)
- Ireland — Revenue
- Netherlands — Belastingdienst
- Spain — Agencia Tributaria
- Italy — Agenzia delle Entrate
How often we review
Tax rules change at least once a year, and sometimes mid-year. We review each calculator when a new tax year begins and whenever a government announces a relevant change. Every calculator shows a "last reviewed" date so you can see how current it is.
Our editorial standards
- We cite primary, official sources rather than secondary reporting.
- We label every result as an estimate and state the tax year it applies to.
- We explain limitations openly — what each calculator does and does not include.
- We do not provide personalised tax advice. [If a qualified accountant or tax adviser reviews your content, name them and their credentials here.]
